Collection: Screws
Screws for trade, workshop and site use, covering the main types across wood, metal and machine fixings. Use the guidance below to pick the right screw for the material and job.
Woodscrews — For fixing into timber and board. The coarse thread bites into wood to pull the joint tight and hold firm, making these the standard fixing for joinery, framing and general woodwork.
Self-tapping screws — These cut their own thread as they drive into a pre-drilled hole, and suit thin metal, plastic and sheet materials. Available in bright and black finishes to match the job and surface.
Self-drilling screws — Also known as tek screws, these have a drill-point tip that bores its own pilot hole, so they fix straight into metal without pre-drilling. Hex head versions drive quickly with a socket for sheet metal, cladding and framing.
Socket cap screws — Machine screws with a cylindrical head and an internal hex (Allen) drive, used with tapped holes or nuts for engineering and machinery assembly where a strong, neat, high-torque fixing is needed.
Hex head screws — Driven with a spanner or socket for higher torque, these suit heavier fixings where a driver bit would not give enough grip.
Choosing a screw — Match the screw to the material first, then the size and finish. If in doubt, choose the type named for your material, such as a woodscrew for timber or a self-drilling screw for metal.
