What the depressed centre does
The centre of the disc is recessed, so the grinder's locknut sits below the level of the cutting face. That clearance lets you cut flush to a surface and work into tighter angles than a flat disc allows — useful on anything fixed in place, like cutting a bolt back to a bracket or trimming steel already welded up.
Why 3mm
The standard-duty thickness. A 3mm disc cuts more slowly than a thin disc and takes out more material, but it carries far more body, so it stands up to repeated heavy cutting and lasts longer on thick stock. Choosing a size
Match the disc to your grinder, never the other way round. 100mm (4"), 115mm (4.5") and 125mm (5") suit standard handheld grinders; 180mm (7") and 230mm (9") need a large two-handed grinder. Larger discs cut deeper but run at lower maximum speeds.
Checking the bore
The 115mm, 125mm, 180mm and 230mm discs use a standard 22mm bore. The 100mm disc has a 16mm (5/8") bore — check what your grinder takes before ordering.
Safety
Never exceed the maximum RPM printed on the disc, and check your grinder's rated speed is at or below it. These are cutting discs only — never use the face for grinding, as side loading can shatter the disc. Use a guard, eye protection and a dust mask.
