HSS Drill Bits
High speed steel twist drills for metal, wood, plastics and ceramics, dispatched from our Leeds warehouse. HSS holds its edge at the temperatures generated by drilling steel, which is where ordinary carbon steel bits give up.
Jobber drills — the standard length bit that covers most work, from 1mm to 13mm. Ground flute bits are machined to a finer tolerance for accuracy and a cleaner hole; roll forged bits are a more economical choice for general drilling.
Cobalt drill bits — 5% cobalt in the steel raises the heat resistance considerably, which is what lets these bits cut stainless steel and other hard metals where a standard HSS bit blunts. Also available as spot weld drills for removing welds on panel work.
Split point — a split point grinds a chisel edge into the tip so the bit bites where you place it, rather than skating across the surface. It saves centre punching on many jobs.
Stub, long series & blacksmith — stub drills are short and rigid, for accuracy and awkward access. Long series reach where a jobber can't. Blacksmith bits go from 13.5mm to 26mm but keep a 13mm reduced shank, so large holes are possible in an ordinary 13mm chuck.
Holesaws — bi-metal holesaw cutters from 14mm to 152mm, with hex and SDS arbors and HSS pilot bits, for holes beyond twist drill sizes.
