Double Sided Foam Tape

Double sided foam tape bonds two surfaces together with adhesive on both sides and a foam core between them. This guide explains what makes it different and how to choose.

Why the foam core — Unlike flat double sided tape, the foam layer has thickness and give. It fills small gaps and conforms to uneven, textured or slightly curved surfaces, so it grips where a thin tape would only touch the high spots. The foam also cushions and absorbs vibration, giving a solid, lasting mount.

What it is used for — Double sided foam tape is used to mount signs, plates, badges, trim and fixings, fit automotive trim and number plates, hold panels and mirrors, and bond parts where drilling or screwing is not wanted. It is the choice for a strong, permanent, hidden fixing on the kinds of surfaces flat tape struggles with.

Getting a strong bond — Clean and dry both surfaces first, as dust and grease weaken the bond, then press firmly to seat the tape. The bond builds over the first hours after fitting, so allow it to set before loading the joint.

Choosing a width — Narrower tape suits trim, badges and light fixings; wider tape holds larger panels and signs. Choose the width to match the size and weight of what you are mounting.
