Battery Isolators

Battery isolator switches and master cut-off switches. An isolator disconnects the battery from the vehicle's electrics with a turn or a key — for safety during work, security against theft, preventing drain during storage, and as a required cut-off in motorsport.

What they're for — kill all power at the source in one action. Common on race and rally cars (where a master cut-off is a scrutineering requirement), classics and project builds, marine and leisure batteries, and any vehicle left standing where a slow drain would otherwise flatten the battery.

Fitting — an isolator is wired into the main battery lead, usually the earth (negative) side, so switching it breaks the circuit completely. Choose an isolator rated comfortably above the maximum current your system draws, including starter cranking current.
