Collection: Continental Fuse

Continental fuses are the older cylindrical fuses fitted to many classic and older European vehicles before blade fuses became standard. This guide explains what they are and how to choose.

What they are — Also known as torpedo or bullet fuses, continental fuses have a ceramic body with pointed metal ends that seat into sprung clips in the fuse box. They were standard on many classic European cars and older vehicles, so they are the fuse to reach for when maintaining or restoring one. They are a different type from modern blade fuses and are not interchangeable, so check which your vehicle uses.

Choosing a rating — Each rating is colour-coded so it can be identified at a glance. The correct rating is set by the wiring and the circuit it protects, so match the fuse to the circuit rather than fitting a higher rating to stop it blowing. Confirm the amperage you need before ordering, and keep a spread of ratings to hand as a fuse is a consumable that replaces when a fault blows it.
