Extra thin cutting discs at 1mm thick, from 100mm to 230mm, for fast and accurate cutting of steel and stainless steel with an angle grinder. Abracs, aluminium oxide, resin bonded and fibreglass reinforced, manufactured to EN 12413.
Stainless steel safe
The 115mm, 125mm and 230mm discs are Abracs Proflex INOX, containing no iron, sulphur or chlorine. That matters because an ordinary disc can leave carbon deposits in the cut which make stainless rust weeks later. These will not contaminate the workpiece, and are suitable for petrochemical, nuclear and food industry work.
Why go thin
A 1mm disc slices rather than grinds its way through. It removes far less material, needs much less effort and generates less heat, so cuts are quicker, edges come away with minimal burr and there is less discolouration around the cut. The trade-off is wheel life — thin discs wear faster than 3mm discs, which is why most workshops keep both.
Choosing a size
Match the disc to your grinder. 100mm (4"), 115mm (4.5") and 125mm (5") suit standard handheld grinders; 230mm (9") needs a large two-handed grinder. The 230mm disc is 1.8mm rather than 1mm — the extra body is what lets a disc that large run safely at full diameter, and it still cuts far faster than a 3mm disc.
Checking the bore
The 115mm, 125mm and 230mm discs use a standard 22mm bore. The 100mm disc has a 16mm bore — check what your grinder takes before ordering.
Safety
Never exceed the maximum RPM printed on the disc, and check your grinder's rated speed is at or below it. These are cutting discs only — never use the face for grinding, as side loading can shatter the disc, and a thin disc is more vulnerable to it than a 3mm one. Use a guard, eye protection and a dust mask.
