Collection: PTFE Tape
PTFE tape, also called thread seal or plumbers' tape, is wrapped around threaded pipe fittings to seal the joint against leaks. This guide explains the types and how to use it.
White or yellow — This is the decision that matters. White PTFE tape is the general-purpose tape for water and plumbing joints. Yellow PTFE tape is thicker and denser and is made for gas fittings, so it is the correct tape for gas work. Do not use water tape on a gas joint; match the tape to the service, and use tape suitably rated for gas on any gas connection.
How it works — Wrapped around the male thread before assembly, the tape fills the thread and lets the fitting tighten to a clean, leak-free seal. It suits tapered and parallel threaded joints across plumbing, heating, air and gas pipework.
How to use it — Wrap the tape around the thread in the direction the fitting screws on, with a firm overlap of a few turns so the thread is evenly covered, then assemble and tighten as normal. More turns give a firmer seal on a loose thread.
