Push Button Switches

Push button switches for automotive, marine, motorsport and panel wiring. This guide covers the choices that matter so you order the right switch first time.

Momentary or latching — A momentary switch is only live while pressed and springs back when released, suited to horns, starters, bells and pulse triggers. A latching switch stays on or off with each press, suited to lights and accessories that should hold their state. Confirm which action the job needs before anything else, as the two are not interchangeable.

Pole and throw — Simple on/off switching one circuit uses a single-pole, single-throw (SPST) switch. Where the switch also needs to feed a second circuit or an indicator, a single-pole, double-throw (SPDT) type is used. Check how many circuits the switch has to control before choosing.

Body and mounting — Plated brass and stainless bodies give a vandal-resistant, corrosion-resistant finish for exterior and exposed positions; the mounting-hole diameter must match the panel cut-out. Terminals are typically screw or spade — match these to your existing loom or connectors.

Illumination — Some switches carry an LED ring or dot for status indication, which needs a suitable supply; plain switches do not. Choose an illuminated type only where a live indication is useful.
