Collection: Self Amalgamating Tape
Self amalgamating tape, also called self-fusing tape, bonds to itself when stretched and wrapped, forming a solid, waterproof, airtight layer with no adhesive. This guide explains how it works and what it is used for.
How it works — Unlike ordinary tape, self amalgamating tape has no glue. Stretch it as you wrap and the layers fuse together into a single rubber-like band that seals tightly around whatever it covers. Because it fuses rather than sticks, it leaves no sticky residue and stays put through heat, damp and vibration where an adhesive tape would peel.
What it is used for — It is the go-to for waterproofing and insulating electrical connections, sealing cable joints and terminations, making emergency repairs to hoses and leaking pipes, and protecting fittings outdoors and underwater. It conforms to awkward shapes and irregular surfaces, giving a sealed, weatherproof finish.
How to use it — Stretch the tape firmly as you wrap so it bonds, overlapping each turn generously and extending onto the surface either side of the joint. Wrapping under tension is what makes it fuse into a continuous, watertight seal.
