Diamond blades are for masonry, not metal
A diamond blade cuts hard mineral materials by grinding through them with industrial diamond bonded into the segments. It is not a metal cutting disc and should not be used on steel. If you need to cut metal, see our cutting discs.
Wet or dry cutting
Every blade in this range can be run either way. Dry cutting is the norm on a handheld grinder; cutting wet suppresses dust and gets more life out of the blade, and is worth doing on longer runs or in enclosed spaces where silica dust is a concern.
What the segment height means
The 10mm segment is the working part of the blade — the diamond-impregnated rim that does the cutting. A taller segment means more material to wear through before the blade is finished, so segment height is the main thing that determines how long a blade lasts.
Choosing a size
115mm (4.5"), 125mm (5") and 230mm (9") are angle grinder blades. Larger diameters cut deeper: a 230mm will take a kerb or block in one pass where a 115mm needs cutting from both faces. The 300mm (12") is not an angle grinder blade at all — it runs on a petrol disc cutter or cut-off saw, for the deepest cuts on site.
Checking the bore
The 115mm, 125mm and 230mm blades use a standard 22mm bore. The 300mm uses a 20mm bore, because it is made for a different machine — check your saw's arbor before ordering.
Safety
Never exceed the maximum speed printed on the blade, and check your machine's rated speed is at or below it. Use the guard, and wear eye protection, gloves, ear defenders and a dust mask — cutting concrete, block and stone dry produces respirable silica dust. Let the blade cut at its own rate rather than forcing it, and keep it straight in the cut.
