Collection: Emery Rolls
Abracs emery cloth rolls are flexible abrasive cloth on a roll, used for sanding, cleaning, deburring and finishing metal by hand. This guide explains how to use them and how to choose the grit.
Why a roll — Supplied on a roll, you tear off exactly the length you need, so there is no waste and one roll covers many jobs. The cloth backing is tougher and more flexible than paper, so it stands up to hand use and wraps around pipes, tube, bar and rounded surfaces to sand right around them.
Choosing a grit — Coarser grits cut faster for removing rust, scale and burrs, while finer grits clean, smooth and finish to a brighter surface. Work from coarse to fine where a job needs both, finishing with a fine grit for a clean, even surface.
Typical jobs — Emery cloth is used to clean and key metal, remove light rust and burrs, polish and brighten, and prepare surfaces before painting or joining. Plumbers also use it to clean copper pipe and fittings back to bright metal before soldering, which is essential for a sound joint.
Choosing a length — Order the grit to suit the work and the length to suit how much you use, taking a longer roll for regular use or a shorter one for occasional jobs.
