What it is used for — Aluminium foil tape forms a strong, heat-reflective and moisture-resistant seal. It is widely used to seal and join ducting, close insulation seams and vapour barriers, and reflect or contain heat around pipework and appliances. The foil backing also gives it a use in shielding and general repair where ordinary cloth or plastic tape would not cope.

Choosing a width — Narrower tape suits sealing seams, small joints and awkward runs; wider tape covers larger duct joints and flat surfaces in fewer passes. Pick the width to match the joint or surface you are sealing, and order more than one width if the job mixes small and large work.
