A Type AB self tapper has a sharp point and cuts its own thread as it goes, so it holds in sheet metal, plastic or thin section without anything being tapped first. The pan head sits proud with a broad flat underside that clamps the material without pulling through, and the Pozidriv recess takes more torque than a plain cross head before it cams out.
