A Type AB self tapper cuts its own thread as it goes, so it holds in sheet metal, plastic or thin section without tapping first. In stainless there is no plating to strip off the head as the driver bites, and nothing to rust and seize the screw in place, which matters on anything that has to come apart again after a few years outdoors. The pan head clamps on a broad flat face and the Pozidriv recess takes torque without camming out.
