200pc Assorted Springs Box - Extension & Compression, Spring Steel

200pc Assorted Box of Springs - 200 small springs in spring steel across twenty sizes, covering both extension and compression types from 4mm up to 9.5mm diameter.

Two kinds of spring do two opposite jobs. A compression spring is an open coil that pushes apart - it goes under a plunger, a catch or a lever to hold something out. An extension spring has a hook at each end and pulls together, returning a lever or a linkage to where it started. Between them they cover most of what goes wrong on small mechanisms, and having a boxful to hand means a seized catch or a snapped return spring is a ten minute job rather than a wait for a part that may no longer be listed.

An assortment box is for general repair and non critical mechanisms. Where a spring has a specified rate, free length and fitted length - brake shoe return springs and throttle return springs in particular - fit the correct part for the application rather than a substitute from an assortment, because a return spring that is too weak or too short will not do its job and on those two systems that matters.
