The barbed stem is what makes these work. Push the clip into a drilled or moulded hole and the ribs flex going in and grip on the way back out, so a panel, a trim piece or a cable run is held with no screw, no nut and nothing to reach behind for. It is how manufacturers fix most interior trim, which is also why they are the part that snaps when a door card comes off - the original is usually brittle by the time anyone needs to remove it, and having a boxful means a trim job does not stall over a twenty pence clip.

Please note
Match the clip to the hole rather than to the old clip's appearance - the barb diameter is what holds, and a clip too small for the hole will pull straight back out. These are a push fit and come out again with a trim tool, but the barbs take a set once fitted, so a clip that has been removed is best replaced rather than reused.
