A chimney nut puts a thread where there is only thin sheet. The clip pushes into the panel hole and the raised chimney takes the screw, with the sprung body holding the whole thing in place while you get the fixing started - which is why they are called speed fasteners. They are what holds most of the parts nobody sees: bumper mounts, splash guards, wheel arch liners, grilles and trim. They are also the part that goes missing the moment a bumper comes off, and a boxful means a refit does not stall over a clip that costs pennies.

Please note
Match the clip to the panel hole rather than to the screw alone - a clip too small for the hole will not locate and one too large will not enter. The thread in a spire clip is formed rather than cut, so it grips the screw as it goes in and is meant to be driven up rather than spun on by hand. Do not overtighten: the clip is a spring, and pulling it out of shape loses the grip that holds it in the panel.
