Why paper, not cloth
A paper backing makes production paper the cost-effective choice for wood, filler and paint. For metal, where a tougher backing takes the heat and oil, use our emery cloth; for wet sanding and finishing paint, our wet and dry sheets.

Choosing a grit
40 (coarse) for stripping paint, rough timber and fast removal. 60 (medium) for general sanding and smoothing. 80 (fine) for finishing bare wood and keying before paint or primer.
